Oracle of the Fairies

Mind Body & Soul Ezine Card Deck Review: ORACLE OF THE FAIRIES,by Karen Kay with illustrations by Ginger Kelly, Boxed set of 44 cards with Guidebook,Published by Hay House,UK £14.99 US $19.99 CAN $25.99

“May you discover your fairy wings inside the sanctuary of your precious heart”
The fairies of these oracle cards are protectors of the environment and guardians of the planet and they possess ancient wisdom that you can tune into for insight and inspiration. Fairies have been created by the Divine Intelligence and are evolving as humans are. They like us to care for the natural world in which they live, to recycle, avoid chemicals and any kind of pollution. This deck will provide enjoyment for nature lovers and fairy believers and all the 44 cards carry positive messages. The card illustrations are of long haired girls and slim young women, dressed in diaphanous gowns of soft pastel colours with rainbow coloured wings who sit in the dappled shade of a forest glade.

There are images of flowers, butterflies, birds, wands and forest dwelling animals. Each card carries a different image, a title and a 30 word message of advice. The guidebook provides an additional 250 word interpretation for each card, with the suggestion that by working with these cards the reader can become a channel for fairies and access fairy wisdom. Also provided are instructions on how to use the cards, such as how to cleanse them with the aroma of sage, rose, lavender or honeysuckle and how to create a quiet and comfortable setting for the reading with ambient music of bells or harp music. Set your intention for the card deck itself and for each reading. Keep an open mind and be receptive.
There is a stipulation to always use protection when conducting either a meditation or a reading as fairies can be mischievous. There is a grounding procedure that is recommended. A blessing is supplied and 4 protection exercises are suggested. If you can add your own blessings, poetry, song or chanting, the fairies especially will attend your readings. There is a choice of five spreads: The ‘Now’ Spread is just one card, Past, Present and Future is a three card reading, The Fairy Star is a seven card reading, and The Fairy Ring is a twelve card reading.

I have chosen one card as a example. It is titled ‘Tree Wisdom’ and the advice on the card is: “This Tree Dryad will help you to navigate through your current situation. Her flute can reveal insights and answers through the sounds it makes.’ The information in the guidebook gives more: This Tree Dryad invites you to tune in to ancient tree wisdom and allow it to imbue your aura. She plays upon her wooden flute to attract your attention through its enchanting sound and vibration, and wishes you to know that your present situation can be helped when you connect with the trees. Hugging a tree is a great way to have direct physical contact and form an energetic connection. Always ask permission from the tree before doing this. Take a few moments to visualise yourself deeply rooted in the ground, just like a tree, and say in your mind or out loud, ‘I wish to connect with you. May I hug you, tree?’ You should receive an instantaneous answer, which may come as a word or a feeling. Trust this.
“Trees offer their wisdom through different gifts depending on the season. In the spring and summer months, tree blossoms can be very healing and uplifting. In the cooler seasons of autumn and winter, the trees shed their leaves knowing that there will be new growth in the springtime. The same goes for you. The fairies say tree wisdom can help you shed any unwanted cares or concerns, so learn to release with love and to know that new spiritual growth will come to you when the time is right.
“Tree wisdom is knowing that birds, insects and animals will carry the trees’ seeds far away so they can grow in their own right, literally in their own light. Perhaps it’s time for you to move away from a situation that’s stunting your growth, or for a general move to allow a new set of circumstances to open up in your life.”

The deck is designed to receive readings for yourself or for giving readings to others. It is expected that the deck, used with care and joy, will become like a new friend. I think the fairy aspects of the deck are most suited to young females who will enjoy entering the light, pretty, delicate and sensitive world of fairy beauty, and who wish to ‘tread gently upon the Earth!’

The Oracle of the Fairies is written by Karen Kay, a former BBC journalist with a post graduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism. She is the current Editor of Fae Magazine. Karen is known for her meditation CDs and is called the ‘Fairy Lady’ because she channels fairies, angels, mermaids and unicorns. Visit Karen’s website: https://karenkay.co.uk/

The illustrations are provided by Australian fantasy artist, Ginger Kelly. Each artwork takes approximately 100 hours to complete. Each illustration begins with a digital canvas which is a pressure sensitive graphics tablet (like a 'plugged in' sheet of paper). It requires a special pen which can act as a pencil, charcoal, paintbrush, airbrush or eraser. She adds photos and builds the images in layers then paints in a computer photo editing program (such as Photoshop). Visit Ginger’s website: https://www.artbygingerkelly.com/
