A Better World is Possible

Mind Body & Soul Ezine Book Review: A Better World is PossibleBy Bruce Nixon Published by O Books   395 pages Paperback £14.99 Author website: Free download available on this link: http://www.brucenixon.com/pdf/abetterworld.pdf

Bruce Nixon worked as a transformational advisor to many large international corporations and he is now a campaigner and consultant on environmental issues. He is the author of ‘New Approaches to Management Development’ (1981) ‘Global Forces: A Guide for Enlightened Leaders – what companies and individual can do’ (2000) ‘Making a Difference – Strategies and Tools for Transforming Your Organisation’ (2001) and ‘Living System: Making Sense of Sustainability’ (2006) and numerous articles, many of which are available on his website.

Bruce Nixon describes the enormous problems that are slowly engulfing everyone on the planet and explains what we need to do to save the health of future generations. I needed to read this book very slowly because there was a great deal of new information that I needed to digest in order to fully understand the quest that the writer has embarked upon. Affluent countries are using more than their share of natural resources and causing pollution of the seas, air and soil. Whilst I was reading, I was reminded of the beauty of the birds and flowers, the creativity of nature and the great expanse and variety that planet Earth supports, which will certainly be in jeopardy if we continue to consume at the present rate.

I see these years as the peak of consumption now, and that in times to come, we will look back and see our behaviour as extremely stupid! How often have we heard it said  ‘this book changed my life’? I can say with conviction that this book has the capacity to change lives and to change the lives of our descendants if we decide to create a cleaner, more efficient and healthier planet! I would recommend the book for 6th form students, business managers, those interested in ecology and politics and to consumers, especially in Western nations. Other reviews:

“Bruce Nixon has provided a comprehensive assessment of why we need to change the way business and government operate to meet the needs of future generations of people, plants and creatures. After reading A better world is possible – what needs to be done and how we can make happen, one is left with a sense that with some joined up thinking and, above all, co-operation anything is possible”. Pete Riley, Campaigns Director GM Freeze

"A Better World Is Possible by Bruce Nixon is full of radical, achievable ideas for a green and just society. A handbook for grassroots, people-power social change, it's inspiring and motivating. Creating a more humane, democratic, accountable and sustainable society is vital for the survival of our planet. Environmental rights are human rights. We all have a right to a safe, healthy environment.
