Medicine Dance

Mind, Body & Soul Ezine Book Review: Medicine Dance - One Woman's Healing Journey into the World of Native American Sweatlodges, Drumming Meditations and Dance Fasts By Marsha Scarborough Paperback £9.99 198 pages

Marsha's mammogram revealed there may be a problem. With the prospect of cancer in her mind, a specialist appointment was available for 2 weeks time. Feeling shocked and saddened, thoughts of cancer began to torment her. Martha has recently lost both parents, nursing her mother through a terminal illness. Being close to her mother in the final stages of death gives Martha new insight into her parents relationship.
Martha seeks the support of Beautiful Painted Arrow - Joseph Rael - to address her own physical healing. This allows Marsha the understanding and courage required to address her own relationships. Her soul begins to stir to a new awakening through Ancient Native American Healing. The experiences she describes of Ceremonial Sacred Dance Sweatlodges and visions, guide and inspire her to change and rediscover her place in the world. Her visions and experiences are clearly defined and the signs she describes manifest into a physical reality. The Hummingbird (a powerful Native American sign) inspires and teaches her to rebirth herself. This book represents this remarkable woman’s personal journey in healing herself. Replacing arrows with diamonds!

This memoir is well written with the Native American Ceremonial Healing dances expressed so creatively that I felt I was taking part myself. It is an extremely comfortable read - much like a comfortable arm chair. I could not put it down! Marsha's ability to balance an ordinary life with Native American ancient methods of spiritual healing produce magnificent results. One of my favourite parts was when, through the fasting and dancing ceremony, a new found freedom was released for Marsha. Truly a gentle, sensitive, inspiring and uplifting book.
Marsha was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. studied journalism at the University of Southern California and has had dozens of articles published in national magazines. She traveled with Buddhist teacher, Joan Halifax, danced with movement guru Gabrielle Roth, earned a brown belt in karate from martial arts legend Tak Kubota, participated in healing ceremonies with Native American mystic, Joseph Rael and produced workshops for a Nigerian master drummer/Yoruba ceremonial leader. The book has been nominated for a book award. Reviewer:  Jane Kennedy website: www.spiritualstepladder.co.uk
