Da Vinci Tarot

Mind, Body & Soul Ezine Card Deck Review: "Leonardo Da Vinci Tarot" with Artwork by Iassen Ghiuselev and Atanas Atanasov and the text of the little white booklet included in the pack by Mark McElroy. Published by Lo Scarabeo.

The basis of the 78 images in this deck are artworks of Leonardo da Vinci which have soft muted and sepia tinted tone. Computer graphics have been added to Leonardo's artwork to create this tarot deck and I enjoyed the cards and was transported back in time to Renaissance Italy. As Leonardo might have met Ludovico de Sforza who commissioned the earliest tarot decks of his time, maybe there was a consideration of the tarot in Leonardo's mind.

This deck is a combined work of two Bulgarian artists. Ghiuselev completed the artwork on the major arcana in 1990s and Atanassov carried this work further ten years later by completing the minor arcana. Atanassov is known for his artwork on Bosch Tarot, Klimt Tarot, the Golden Tarot of the Tsar, and Visconti Tarot and Ghiuselev artwork of Tarot of the Third Millennium.
I find the major arcana the most magical as their titles are in mirror writing which Leonardo produced. The numbering of the major cards is in Latin numerals, and the card titles are in six European languages at the corners. The minors have Arabic numerals with their suit titles included. The court cards have no numbers but their titles are written on the cards. The backs give nothing away as to whether the cards land upright or reversed. I think it will assist card readers to study the characters portrayed in the images. Who doesn't love Leonardo! These images are a great joy to work with, they are inspiring and they reach deep within the mind and heart for understanding. I like to intuit what the human figures are portraying and what the personalities within the cards are thinking, and this helps my readings immensely. A great deck - give it a try!

This card deck is in the Total Tarot Course Collection, magazine numbers 76 and 77.

Not to be confused with Caitlin Matthew’s Da Vinci Enigma Tarot deck.Review by Wendy Stokes  https:wendystokes.co.uk
