Pre-Raphelite Tarot Review

Mind Body & Soul Ezine Card Deck Review: Pre-Raphelite Tarot by Luigi Da Costa published by Lo Scarabeo

The inspiration for this deck comes from the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood, who were an artistic group who signed the paintings with the initials PRB, and had as their emphasis “ Beauty as the defined essence intrinsic in every aspect of creation.” Here we see the divine embodied in nature, in romance, and in the mystique of this beautiful and enchanting Tarot deck.

Originally the group had three founding members, Dante Gabriel, Rossetti, William Holman Hunt, and John Everett Millais. These were joined by Edward Burne-Jones, William Morris, and John William Waterhouse. Many women became part of the group. Elizabeth Siddal is featured in the 3 of Swords. She married Rosetti and was herself a painter and poet. She died of an overdose of laudanum at 32 years old. Jane Burden married William Morris, but had affairs, including with Rossetti. She is the inspiration for the Queen of Wands. Fanny Cornforth became Rossetti’s mistress.  She is the Ace of Swords. Beata Beatrix by Rossetti is 2 of Swords.  Miranda in Shakespeare’s Tempest is 3 of Wands.

A joy to work with! Luigi Costa also created the Mystical Tarot, another amazing Tarot deck. Also in the Total Tarot Course, magazine numbers 10 & 11 Visit: https://totaltarotcollection.com
