Tree Angel Oracle

Mind Body Soul Ezine Card Deck Review: The Angel Tree Oracle Deck - The Ancient Path into the Sacred Grove by Fred Hageneder with illustrations by Anne Heng. Published by Earthdancer (an Inner Traditions imprint).  A boxed set of 36 cards and an explanatory booklet. Visit: www.themeaningoftrees.com

I liked these cards very much. Ecology is an important aspect of both ancient and New Age spirituality. The more we know and love the natural world, and trees especially, the more life becomes meaningful to us. These cards help us to forge a relationship with the world around us as we live our life each day. The forest and its trees are a metaphor for the soul. Tree spirits and nature spirits are an ancient tradition and this deck brings alive the myths and ancient knowledge of the past and adds modern wisdom to each tree card, described as the ‘Wildwood of the Soul’.

Each card has a number, an image and a title of a tree species. The book text provides a meaningful reading about each tree species, there is an explanation on how to use the cards, and spread suggestions, such as A Tree for Today (one card), The Silent Guardians (two cards), The Primeval Doorway (three cards) and The Medicine Wheel (four cards).

The deck creator’s name relates to his interest in this subject. The word ‘hag’ is a sacred grove, and ‘hagen’ means wood. Eder means vein, that is, a river or tributary that brings life to the trees. The deck was inspired at a retreat by Fred Hageneder, a leading expert in ethnobotany and member of the Ecocentric Alliance, a global advocacy for deep green ethics. He is also the founder member of the Ancient Yew Group which seeks to protect ancient British yew trees.   This deck is available in German, French and Japanese languages. Recommended. Enriching!
