Mind Body & Soul Ezine Card Deck Review: Pirate Tarot by Lucas Amodio and artist Liz Harper known as Galindorf. Set of 78 cards plus leaflet insert. Published by Schiffer Books/REDFeather, £14.99
Re-titles of Major Arcana cards: The Chirurgeon, The Figurehead, The Bosun, The Winds, The Plank! Scenes from the high seas engraved on cherry wood, these woodcuts are like 'Happy Families' for the buccaneering, sailing and pirating classes. In the genre of Ireland's Grace O'Malley, Mary Reid and Anne Bonney, who disguised as men, sailed the seas as pirates, women also feature in this deck! Pugnose Pete and Bloody Mary are there within the images! Many of the Major Arcana cards are re-titled. There are 4 suits with Flintlocks, Cutlasses, Mugs and Coins, the court cards are Cabin Boys, First Mates, Lady-Captains and Captains!
Four keywords are printed on the faces with the title, number and image, plus the word PIRATE which makes the 5.5” x 3.5” cards bulky to shuffle, especially for young hands!
If predicting the future doesn't shiver your timbers, try an easy 'trick taking' card game for mediaeval to modern card sharks! Where's the bottle of rum! Shuffle and cut! Deal 12 cards to each player. The player left of the dealer lays first. Everyone must play the same suit or throw another or a trump. The player with the highest ranking card wins the trick and collects all the cards. Instructions provided with card values.
A fun deck! I think the images have a 'Jolly Roger' teenager style presence! An ideal gift to introduce kids to tarot especially whilst sailing or cruising or to keep them quiet during high days and holidays!
