Mind Body & Soul Ezine card deck review: Before Tarot by Corrine Kenner with artwork by Eon and Simona Rossi, published by Lo Scarabeo.
Based on the images of the traditional Rider Waite Smith deck, Before Tarot anticipates the time beforehand, the circumstances, situations, actions and behaviours, and even the possible conversations that are taking place.
The Fool is smelling the roses. The Magician is in thought planning his next manifestation a monkey by his side. An owl of wise thought visits the High Priestess. The Empress entertains the dove of peace with children on her lap. The Emperor stands to carry a lamb over his shoulders. The Hierophant is crowned. The Lovers depict a man helping a woman who has fallen. The Chariot is at a standstill as the charioteer enters. Strength shows a woman giving a flower wreath to the lion. The Hermit plucks a shining star from the firmament, a snake curling at his feet. The Wheel of Fortune is not yet in motion. Justice is seen with a dove of peace. The Hanged man is accompanied by two ravens whispering prophecy and insight. Death has the moon in the sky as blue flowers bloom in the cemetery. Winged Temperance fills her jugs from the fountain with both her feet in the pool. The Devil is laughing. The Tower is standing tall. The Star has a pelican of altruism and self sacrifice on her shoulder. The Moon sheds a blessing on the waters of life. The Sun child has been placed on a horse. The horn of Judgement is preparing to sound. The World shows lovers embracing.
The suits are Cups, Pentacles, Wands and Swords. The Ace of Cups carries a salmon. Five includes a cat, the Page has a seagull, the Queen, a porpoise, and the King a seagull. Five of Pentacles includes a dog, Nine a kestrel, 10 puppies are on the man’s lap, and the Queen has a snake. Three of Wands has a bird of prey, Nine a wolf like lion, the Queen has a black cat, the King has a lion. Three of Swords has a blackbird, Four has butterflies, the Page has a kestrel, and the Queen an angel.
Before Tarot deck is one of a twin; the other is After Tarot deck, by the same author with artwork by Franco Rivolli. After Tarot suggests what happens after the scene on the images of the Rider Waite Tarot has taken place. These two twin decks can be used together. I really like Before Tarot. My imagination is triggered and a great story line can be envisioned. Creative and enjoyable, and full of great wisdom too! Recommended.
