Mind Body & Soul Ezine Card Deck Review: Celtic Book of the Dead - An Oracle to Steer Your Life Journey by Caitlin Matthews and Danuta Mayer. Published by REDFeather, an imprint of Schiffer Books RRP £27.99 (release date: 28/1/2023)
“The three candles, that illuminate every darkness, are truth, nature and knowledge.”
We are given a direction by the author, “May your immram make you glad in your soul, and may its blessing ripple through the world.” If I had a criticism, it would be that the Lenormand size cards are somber in colouring, and computer graphics rather personal artworks, so I was a bit disappointed. There is a folded card insert in the box for a card spread - I would have preferred a larger sized, and more colourful deck of cards.
Quality drawer pull box to store accompanying companion book with full card information available. There are 33 cards of the island suit, and 2 guide cards and 7 gift cards, each with an image, number and title. This is a concept deck that is based on an ancient Irish text of the Voyage of Maelduin, a journey towards the Blessed Isles to the west of Ireland, with islands and seas with gifts, strategies and solutions, terrifying challenges, transformations and self discoveries. Here we meet insects, beasts, flesh eating monsters and giants. But all is not of danger, there are places of great beauty, wonders, song, wisdom, recognition, joy, and truth. This deck takes us on the testing path of the ‘immrama’, or pilgrimage of life to purify, clarify, and refocus us, and this is where we can divine our path, meditate and prepare to meet our death, everyday. Deep & powerful!
