Mind Body & Soul Ezine Book Review: Rituals and Practices with the Motherpeace Tarot by Vicki Nobel. Published by Bear & Co. US $15 : Can $18.
With its focus on the Goddess and the Divine Feminine, this is the workbook to accompany the original round deck, the Motherpeace Tarot created by Vicki Noble and Karen Vogel 45 years ago. It was the first multicultural Tarot exclusively for women. Taking its inspiration from ancient cultures and modern tribal peoples, with non stereotypical settings and design, it has sold in its thousands.
Women’s spirituality and Tarot is powerful and a means for many women to earn a little additional money. The book provides background to the deck, the 3 part structure of the deck, how to perform a ‘fate’ reading, and it presents a study plan for working closely with the cards on a daily basis. There are b/w images drawn throughout the book, such as when working with chakras, and each Major has a few sentences of explanation. We are informed about free will and fortune-telling a 3 card Past, Present and Future reading, a Four Card reading for health - good health is a ‘must’ for all women! Relationship advice is offered pertaining to the cards and there is a couple’s ritual counselling session and how to manifest a relationship. How to find yes/no in the cards is covered and the importance of work/life balance. A sample reading is provided.
At the end of the book there is information on celebrating the seasonal festivals with rituals, and working with the Motherpeace in the modern world. There is a resource list provided including CDs for meditation and spiritual work and Buddhist chants for rituals and Vicki’s recommendations for products, notes and bibliography.
I have always liked this deck, and appreciate this book that provides additional resources for working with this, still very wonderful, Tarot deck.
