The Pillars of the Earth

Circle Network Book Review: The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet, published by Pan McMillan, 1088 pages, paperback. £8.99

This is a masterpiece of storytelling by a master of this art. Ken Follet is a brilliant historical researcher, and this inspiring and exciting drama is no exception to his considerable abilities as an international, award winning author of many best selling blockbusters. This book is one of the UK's BBC best- loved books in the Big Read competition.

The story takes us back to the hardships of the twelfth century and the design and building of the great cathedrals. A painful, yet heart warming story develops, as the aspiring Cathedral builder takes his family on the long road of hard work and eventual success. As we meet each personality, we are caught up in their personality, background, lives and losses, needs and joys.

A book to love and cherish each moment! Recommended. The story was made into a film, shown in a series on Select Five.
