Amazing Women Cards Review

AMAZING WOMEN CARDS 45 inspirational cards by Mara Pala and Vicky Benaim.
Illustrated by Josefina Schargorodosky. Boxed set of 45 Cards and full colour Guidebook. Published by Watkins Publishing. ISBN 9781-1-78678-822-1   RRP UK £19:99

Welcome Spring and the Divine Feminine with this delightful inspirational set of cards . Each card features a remarkable woman  who has helped to shape the history of humanity. The introduction highlights how we are familiar with men who have made history, and here we have a selection of accomplished women who are prominent historical fugures. This oracle card set is about honouring women from history and empowering modern women.

The set is packaged in a card box the design of which doubles as a picture frame which inserts the Femme card you are working with, and this is covered by a slide off card sleeve. The cards themselves are excellent quality with a soft pale green colour on the back with a branch motif at two opposing corners, with palest delicate pink on the front. It has an illustration of each lady and four simple (but relevant) soundbites on each. The cards are unnumbered and are set out in alphabetical order for reference with the guidebook. The guidebook contains two pages for each card, one with an illustration, and one with a brief and succinct description of the life's work of the woman represented.

There is a reference for card layouts and how to use cards. The deck is very simple and effective in its design. I enjoyed working with these cards and I felt as if I could channel some of the vast intelligence, creativity, passion and empathy of these outstanding women. Possibly igniting some of my own sparks.

I found the oracle surprising because the first card I chose was Ada Lovelace, a computer programming pioneer and a genius of maths and engineering. I wondered how that would relate to me as I am no genius, however her tenacity for new ideas and her methods of self discipline and study appealed to me greatly. I had chosen her twice in a row which sent me down a wonderful rabbit hole of discovery.

The next card I worked with was Marina Abramovich, a performance artist and a fantastic thinker. Avant gaarde doesn't begin to describe her. There was a spooky resonance about this as I discovered an old friend, a professional photographer, had been commissioned to photograph Marina and had posted this on social media the same day that I was working with her energies. I also found the deck very educational. One of the cards I chose was Silvina OCampo, an Argentinian author who I discovered was also a Tarot card reader - so more extraordinary resonance!

Controversial figures, such as Anna Politkovskya courageously covered the news of the struggle for human rights during the Chechnyan War. It is widely believed that she was assassinated for her caring and courage. There are many more yet for me to discover! The most popular women are represented, like Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, Hypatia, Marie Curie etc., as well as figures from the art and music scene, like Nina Simone and Janis Joplin, Frida Khalo and my personal heroine Remedios Varo, are part of the beauty of this set, as you find the unexpected and synchronistic. This oracle takes you out of your comfort zone in a most delightful way.

"Amazing Women" is a gorgeous kit for tapping into Goddess energy. I found it to be very useful for helping me to focus and create. It is absolutely perfect as an educational tool. It's simplicity and effectiveness are immaculate. This oracle card deck will suit young people but it is suitable for all ages and levels of understanding. It is completely absorbing and a wonderful way to mark international Women's Day on March the 8th, or indeed any day.
